UUM ONLINE: 30 August 2018 - "Move on and ignore the negative comments from people around you or on the social media. We must do our best for UUM to ensure that this university will change for the better," remarked the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani during the Vice-Chancellor's Handover of Duties Ceremony from Professor Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak to his successor, Professor Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani. The historical event took place at the Visitors’ Lounge, this morning.
He added that, now, it is his duty and responsibility to bring UUM to greater heights. Therefore, strong support and assistance from all members of the campus community and the top management personnel are vital to ensure that we achieve our goals.
Professor Dr. Ahmad Bashawir explained that, he has always adhered to his late parents’ advice which cautioned him to always be vigilant in his journey because life could throw you curveballs.
"Their advice and guidance have given me much strength to shoulder this trust and responsibilities as the Vice-Chancellor and that is why I need the assistance from all to bring UUM to greater heights.
"Furthermore, as the only public university in the state of Kedah, we will also assist the state government to develop the economy, the people and also UUM," he said.
Meanwhile, the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, the 7th Vice-Chancellor of UUM stated that, he is confident that the new Vice-Chancellor will start working right away and he will remain impartial and just.
Professor Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa said that, the responsibility to develop the university is not only shouldered by the Vice-Chancellor. The duty should be shared with the members of the University Management Committee (JPU).
"It is important for the new Vice-Chancellor to have a strong team with members who are devoted and loyal to him. Most importantly, the members of the team must be highly committed and trustworthy," he said.
He added that, without strong support, it will be tough for the Vice-Chancellor to carry-out his current duties and responsibilities, coupled with the limited financial situation faced by the university. Professor Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa will continue to assist the university within his capacity and he declares his unwavering support to the new Vice-Chancellor.
