UUM ONLINE: Two lecturers from UUM’s Islamic Business School (IBS) were invited to participate in two sessions of the Sarajevo Summer School 2018 held at the Gazi Husrev-Bey Library, Bosnia and Herzegovina recently.
Dean of IBS, Prof. Dr. Asmadi Mohamed Naim and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zairani Zainol gave their talks on the respective titles, Shariah Screening for Business and Finance for Unit Trusts and Contracts as well as Products Applied by Islamic Banking.
Prof. Dr. Asmadi said the Sarajevo Summer School 2018 which revolved around Islamic finance attracted participants from Europe and West Asia.
According to him, the programme was organized by the European Association of Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance (EUIEBIF) and the School of Economics and Business, University of Sarajevo, Bosnia.
He further reiterated that, presentations also involved other panellists comprising experts from the United Kingdom, Turkey and Bosnia.
Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zairani Zainol said she was enthusiastic to share knowledge with students and professionals on Islamic finance especially when she shared examples of development models in Malaysia from the early beginnings until recently.
According to her, attendees were keen to explore the area and conduct further discussions on the issues presented.
"Bosnia comprises 52 percent Muslims, thus there are a lot of potentials for wide-ranging halal products including Islamic finance, as Bosnia hopes to be the point of entry for halal industrial into the continent.
"A great many things are being discussed like halal development and promoting IBS in the world.
"I see opportunities in the development of halal products, it appears that the people are more open to Islamic finance but Islamic appreciation is still lacking and at the moment there is only one bank that practices Islamic finance," he said.
Director of the Summer School who is also Director of the Centre for Islamic Financial Studies, University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Velid expressed his heartfelt appreciation toward UUM for sharing knowledge that benefited the participants.
He fervently hoped that the close cooperation will continue and that UUM will become co-organizers with the various associations and University of Sarajevo.
