UUM ONLINE: 15 March - With the rebranding of UUM's vehicle workshop to Grantt Garage, is seen as a viable way to provide customers with the best quality service at reasonable price offerings to customers especially to the staff and students of this University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, said the services provided at Grantt Garage, would become a new source of income generation for the University through profit sharing between UUM and UMW Grantt, which would save the cost of maintaining the UUM vehicles and the vehicles of its members of staff.
“Previously the workshop could only provide basic vehicle servicing facilities and vehicles which needed major repairs would be sent to workshops outside, thus the University would have to pay a great deal of money, but now with Grantt Garage, we can save more costs, in addition, the University also possesses skilled labour who are able to repair the vehicles, "he said at the launch of Grantt Garage at UUM Automotive Workshop earlier this morning.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude and appreciation to UUM’s industry partner, UMW Grantt, for establishing a partnership with UUM within a short time beginning with a MoU, followed by a MoA and then the realization of the agenda between the two parties.
In addition, according to him, UUM also planned to make technological changes in collaboration with UMW Grantt including encouraging students to undergo training in the workshop.
Meanwhile, President of the Manufacturing and Engineering Division, UMW Corporation Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Megat Azmir Nordin, said UMW Grantt International Sdn. Bhd. established a partnership with UUM over the past year with the sealing of a MoA which included the sponsorship of Student Residential Hall (INASIS) at UUM called Inasis GRANTT; grants for student activities for the School of International Studies (SOIS) and the appointment of Uniutama Property Sdn. Bhd. (UPSB) as the Grantt's authorized distributor of lubricants for the UUM community and branding of the automotive workshop.
He said the Grantt Garage, which began its operations since October last year, was a workshop conceptualized as 'workshop for on-campus vehicle' that provided maintenance and repair services which included 40 percent discount for both staff and students.
He said the branding of the UUM automotive workshop was also aimed at empowering the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, as one of the initiatives to be carried out to the community by offering the service of maintaining and repairing vehicles to communities inside and outside of UUM.
At the event, eight students received tokens for their efforts in creating the Grantt Garage signage.
