UUM ONLINE: 8 March - "The Head of Department at each school must first understand the strategy or the action plan in order to prepare their potential subjects to be placed in the QS University Rankings. This step will also facilitate the long-term planning for each department," said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak at the QS University Rankings by Subject, Action Plan Workshop.
The event was organised by the Institute of Quality Management (IPQ) at the TH Hotel yesterday.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the workshop was conducted not only for the short-term planning but the plan must continue and we should aim to place our high potential subjects from all schools in UUM to be featured among the best in the world.
He stated that, after we have successfully secured our place among the top 100, the university would like to further improve our position to be among the World's Top 10 University.
The "mission accomplished' phrase does not exist, even though we have attained the Top 100 position. For that reason, I want all participants to understand the action plan and pay greater emphasis on their potential subjects by holding an in-depth discussion at their school," said the Vice-Chancellor.
"I would like all of us to emulate the Singapore Management University (SMU) as a 'business model'. We could highlight UUM achievements through the Subject Ranking and prove that UUM can be as successful as the SMU.
"At the moment, we have identified 16 subjects with high potential to be listed in the Top 200 or Top 100 position," he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim said, the workshop provided the avenue to identify and explore the best strategy to propel UUM to break into the listing of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
Participants of the workshop which consist of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Deans, Heads of Departments and representatives from various schools were given a briefing on the action plan by the IPQ, and this was followed by a presentation session by the participants of the workshop.
