UUM ONLINE: 6 March - In order to embrace the rapidly-evolving world with complex challenges, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has taken proactive stances by establishing strategic partnerships with various local and also international institutions. This includes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Western Michigan University (WMU), a leading university in the United States.
Ensuing the MoU, which was signed in August 2015, UUM through the UUM National Golf Academy (UUMNGA) hosted several meetings with WMU concerning the proposed joint degree programme in sports management and recreation.
In view of that, a delegation from WMU, led by Prof. Dr. Ming Li, the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development paid a visit to UUM. He was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Liu Yuanlong, Chair and Professor of Research, Measurement and Evaluation for Department of Human Performance and Health Education; Prof. Dr. Suzan Ayers, Professor of Physical Education, Teacher Education; and Dr. Zeljka Vidic, Assistant Professor of Coaching Sport Performance and Graduate Programme Coordinator.
The members of the delegation from WMU visited UUM with the intent to hold a discussion regarding the proposed joint degree programme. The members of the delegation arrived on 5 March and the visit will conclude on 7 March 2018.
The arrival of the delegation from WMU was welcomed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International Affairs), Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim at UUM Welcome Center. Prof. Dr. Yusnidah also enlightened them with the latest development of UUM and a discussion session was also held to identify possible collaborative ventures between both universities.
Also present during the discussion session were the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM COB, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah; Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM CAS, Prof. Dr. Huda Hj. Ibrahim; the Director of UUMNGA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azman Yasin; and the Director of CIAC, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Farizal Rajemi.
Meanwhile, the Director of UUMNGA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azman Yasin said, the purpose of the two-day visit by the delegation from WMU was for them to get better acquainted with UUM and also to consider the prospects of high impact cooperation that can be jointly explored by both parties. They also discussed the proposed degree programme in Sports Management and Recreation.
The members of the delegation from WMU were also taken on a tour around the campus on the tram before dining at the Manager's Coffee outlet.
