UUM ONLINE: 11 February - The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak welcomed a courtesy visit from Datuk Mohamed Nizam Tun Abdul Razak at UUM Welcome Center this morning.
Also present during the courtesy visit were the Director of UUM National Golf Academy (UUMNGA), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azman Yasin and a representative of 1Malaysia People's Foundation (YR1M), Mr. Shawn D. Thornberry from the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America).
Prof. Dato’ Seri Vice-Chancellor extended his warm welcome to the guests and he also enlightened them with some information on UUM including the development of golf at the university.
The visit was aimed at gathering insights, inputs and also to monitor the development of golf as well as to share and exchange ideas for the development of golf.
Meanwhile, the Director of UUMNGA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azman Yasin said, the meeting was initiated by UUMNGA in collaboration with the 1Malaysia People's Foundation where the Prime Minister of Malaysia served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
"Datuk Mohamed Nizam Tun Abdul Razak came here to gain some insights and look at the role of UUMNGA in the development of golf as an organised sport at the University and also in Malaysia. He will also have a look at the blueprint of all golf organizations in Malaysia and make informed recommendations to the Prime Minister for further action.
"I hope that The National Golf Academy will become the training hub for golf development at the national level for junior and elite players. I also wish that the academy will receive enough financial assistance to carry out all programmes," he added.
Datuk Mohamed Nizam also spent some time interacting with students and staff at the office of UUM National Golf Academy.
He also grabbed the chance to try-out the golf simulator, a facility that provides realistic indoor golfing experience without compromising the important elements of the sport.
The guests were also taken on a tour around the campus and experience the beauty of flora and fauna, as well as the vast expanses of the green campus before dining at UUM Manager's Coffee outlet.
