UUM ONLINE: 10 February - The two-day National Higher Education Carnival (KPTN) 2018 attracted more than 15,000 visitors comprising Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) school leavers wishing to pursue further studies. The carnival was held at UUM Palapes Parade Ground starting today.
This carnival was jointly organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and Universiti Utara Malaysia. A total of 20 public institutions of higher education, polytechnics and community colleges took part in the carnival.
The carnival was officiated by Kedah State Executive Councillor, Dato’ Dr. Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail, representing the Menteri Besar of Kedah.
In his speech, Dato’ Dr. Ku Abd Rahman stated that, this carnival presented the opportunities for school leavers to gain better understanding on the study programmes offered at various institutions and this will indirectly cultivate first-class mindset among Malaysians.
"I am also certain that the carnival will further inspire and nurture more knowledgeable, highly-skilled, and competitive human capital that will become the catalyst of the nation development as underscored in the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) initiative which aimed at transforming Malaysia into a nation of calibre, with a new mindset," he added.
Meanwhile, UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, UUM received a lot of applications to enrol in the various programmes of study offered at the university. For this reason, UUM has been making various improvements and new programmes of study are also being offered.
He added that, this carnival served as the ideal platform for students to gain access to specific information on courses offered at various institutions of higher education as well as post-graduation career prospects to help students make informed choices about their future.
Also present at the ceremony were the Director-General of Higher Education, Datin Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir, senior officers of MoHE and UUM.
A total of 250,000 visitors are expected to turn up at the KPTN 2018 roadshow which began in January till April 2018.
