UUM ONLINE: Kazakhstan - The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, paid a courtesy call on the Provost of Nazarbayev University (NU), Professor Dr. Ilesanmi Adesida, in conjunction with his working visit to Astana, recently.
During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor gave a briefing on UUM's international achievements such as its successful attainment of both the AACSB and AMBA accreditations, and its efforts towards the next goal, i.e. the EQUIS accreditation.
According to the Provost of NU, Prof. Dr. Illesanmi, NU was still in the early stages of working towards obtaining the above mentioned accreditations.
The representatives of both universities also agreed to have extensive discussions on possible avenues for closer collaboration such as student and staff mobility programmes.
Nazarbayev University was established after Kazakhstan achieved independence from the Soviet Union, backed up by huge material support, and the university has 6,000 students and a teaching staff of which 80 percent consists of foreign lecturers.
The UUM delegation, which also included the Dean of the IBS, Prof. Dr. Asmadi Mohamed Naim, was received by a welcoming committee which also included the Deans of the Nazarbayev University, namely, Prof. Patrick Duparcq, Dean of the Graduate School of Business; Prof. Weng Tat Hui, Dean of the Graduate School of Public Policy; and Prof. Daniel Pugh, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
