UUM ONLINE: The Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC) held a Strategic Plan Improvement and Scenario Planning Workshop at the EDC Hotels & Resorts yesterday.
As Chairman of the MEC, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, was also invited to share his experience and knowledge in leading an organisation, by way of a talk entitled 'Leadership and Change in an Organisation' at the workshop.
The Vice- Chancellor said that, as a leader, one should benefit others through the leadership qualities they possessed.
He said that knowledge should also be shared with others so that everyone benefited from it.
"The best or the noblest people in the sight of God are those who use their knowledge to benefit others in their capacity as leaders.
"The little bit of knowledge and experience shared here, I hope, will prove beneficial enough to all the participants attending the workshop, to merit being incorporated into their respective organisations or within the MEC itself,” he said.
At the same time, the Vice- Chancellor also recommended that all members of staff at every level undertook continuous training according to the dictates of the prevailing circumstances.
He added that the workshop was important and necessary for taking stock of the current state of the organisation, the issues and challenges at hand, and its future direction.
According to him, workshops and seminars of this nature should be held more often so that problems within the organisation could be identified and resolved as quickly as possible.
A total of 28 participants comprising senior MEC officials attended the three-day workshop, which began on 21 December. The workshop, the first of its kind, was the brainchild of the Vice-Chancellor himself.
Also present at the event were the Chief Executive Officer of the MEC, Haji Mohd Fauzi Dato' Mohd Kassim; the Director of the IPQ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah; and senior UUM officials.
