At the event, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated members of staff who had been chosen to perform the fifth pillar of Islam.
"You are lucky to have been chosen among more than one billion Muslims from around the world to be the guests of Allah and this golden opportunity should be benefitted in the best possible way that is by performing ibadah as well as possible," he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also reiterated that pilgrimage is an act of worship which tests the strength and endurance of faith thus rigorous spiritual and physical preparations are indispensable in order to enhance one’s act of worship.
"I hope that as pilgrims, all of you can stay fit and eat well throughout the pilgrimage. Apart from staying fit I also hope fellow UUM pilgrims will remain patient when faced with the variety of challenges you are bound to face while performing the Hajj in the Holy Land from beginning to end," he said.
He also reminded that the pilgrims to also pray for themselves, their family members, friends as well as UUM, a place where they earn a living while in the Holy Land.
The ceremony was also attended by the Registrar, Mr. Mohamad Akhir Haji Yusuf; Deputy Registrar, Mr. Baharudin Yaacob and Director of the Chancellery, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi Abdullah.
In all, a total of 13 UUM members of staff will perform the Hajj for the 2016 pilgrimage season whereby the earliest flight to the Holy Land is on 4 August.
