The visit was aimed at providing an opportunity for the staff members of IBS to share ideas as well as discuss current issues and problems directly with the Vice-Chancellor. The staff members of IBS were also presented with the opportunity to ask questions to the Vice-Chancellor.
“This is part of my plan to visit all academic schools in UUM after launching the second phase of UUM Strategic Plan. I would like to take a look at the preparation and arrangement for the next five years after putting the finishing touches on Phase One of UUM Strategic Plan for the year 2011 - 2015,” he said.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor is calling on the denizens of IBS to unleash the potential of Islamic Business programme and become more resolute in promoting and making the Islamic Business programme one of the best academic programme in the university. In addition, he also emphasised on the importance of the mastering the Arabic and English Language among IBS students to ensure that they become more competitive in the job market.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the importance of contributing academic research studies in areas for instance Takaful, Ar-Rahnu, Islamic Banking, Wakaf (endowment) and other related fields.
"Malaysia is seen as a successful Islamic country in terms of implementing the Islamic banking system, Islamic Economics and so on. However, research studies in this field are somewhat limited. As such, efforts to produce writing in the form of case studies need to be intensified," he said.
He added that, cooperation with external parties through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will increase research and consultancy activities. Moreover, publication of research articles in high impact journals should be given high priority. This will certainly support the university agenda in improving our rankings and ratings.
Meanwhile, the Dean of IBS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nasri Md Hussain presented a briefing on the current development of IBS.
Also present were the Director of the Chancellery, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi Abdullah, Director of Quality Management Institute (IPQ), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah and the Director of Academic Affairs Department, Mr. Mohd Zamri Ahmad.
