Assoc Prof Dr Hussin Abdullah from the School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB) was appointed as the Director of the Co-Curriculum Centre. Meanwhile, Syamsul Anuar Che Mey@Ismail from the School of Multimedia Technology and Communication (SMMTC) was appointed as the Director of the Alumni Centre. Both centres are housed under the Student Affairs Department.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor said that both centres play a vital role to the university in maintaining UUM quality and traditions, and helping to ensure its future.
According to him, in the co-curriculum aspect, the university is on its way to introduce the integrated Cumulative Grade Point Average (iCGPA) system – a grading system that covers all aspects including leadership, social contribution, communication, critical thinking skills and other positive values.
"With the introduction of the integrated Cumulative Grade Point Average (iCGPA) system, the nation can soon look forward to more holistic and readily employable graduates. This grading system is a more accurate tool to measure students’ competencies since it integrates co-curricular activities instead of academic achievements alone," he said.
He further added the iCGPA system encourages the university students to participate more in the co-curricular activities. Besides, the new grading system is highlighted as one of the key initiatives in the national education blueprint to produce holistic, entrepreneurial and balanced graduates.
"Meanwhile, UUM Alumni Centre fosters stronger relationships between students and alumni. Apart from that, it assists in staging events as well as encourages networking and alumni involvement with students prior to or after their graduation," he said.
The Director of Alumni Centre, Syamsul Anuar expressed his gratitude for his appointment as the new Alumni Centre director. As a start, he encourages the use of technology to work smarter to increase efficiency and streamline the flow of all works at the centre.
"I have a plan to build UUM Shared Interest Group (SIG). It provides opportunities for alumni to connect and reconnect to the University, serves as a channel of communication between alumni and the University, and promotes support of many types for the University," he said.
At the same event, Assoc Prof Dr Hussin Abdullah was appointed as the University Senate member.
