Thus, to discuss key issues in the housing industry as well as to identify suitable measures to address the concerns related to this industry, the Northern Corridor Research Centre (NCRC), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and the Institute for Governance and Innovation Studies (IGIS) UUMCOLGIS have organised the Roundtable Discussion (RTD) on Malaysian Sustainable Housing in the Millennium: Perspectives, Challenges and Prospects at EDC-Hotel & Residence this morning.
In his welcoming remark, the Director of UUM IGIS, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nuarrual Hillal Md Dahlan said, this RTD is in keeping with the Collaborative Dialogue on Corridor Development Initiatives (CDCDI) Programme which focuses on the five areas in the Corridor Development and the RTD is one of the signature programmes of NCRC.
"The timely organization of the RTD will generate notable focus on housing issues including the construction of housing projects, abandoned projects, quality deterioration in housing construction industry and other unresolved matters.
This RTD is expected to generate high impact outcomes to issues involving housing ownership since this programme garners the involvement of skilled and informed participants in this area. The NCRC and IGIS certainly hope that this collaboration will be further intensified through the organization of more collaborative programmes,” he added.
Two topics were discussed in the RTD, specifically 'Law, Protection and Quality' and 'Affordability & Pressing Issues.' The Director of UUM IGIS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuarrual Hillal acted as the moderator during the first session and the second session was overseen by a lecturer at the School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB), Mr. Muhammad Ridhuan Bos Abdullah.
Among the agencies involved in this RTD were Khazanah Research Institute (KRI), Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government(KPKT), the Department of Town and Country Planning (JPBD), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), PR1MA Corporation Malaysia (PR1MA), Bina Darulaman Berhad (BDB) and 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Programme (PPA1M).
