The event is an initiative by the Youth and Sports Ministry as a pro-active step to achieve the aspiration of making Malaysia a Sporting Nation.
Mukhriz in a press conference said the presence of many participants at the event proved that the Kedah people demonstrated their support towards the Federal Government efforts in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
"The Kedah people are associated with chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol and ranked number one in the country. Therefore, I see the National Sports Day is a pro-active step towards a healthy lifestyle and sporting nation," he said.
Some 10,000 participants including the UUM denizens took part in the one-day event, cramped with a variety of sports and fitness activities including aerobics, Fun Walk, Fun Ride with the Kedah MB, lucky draws and exhibitions.
The National Sports Day is held on the second Saturday in the month of October every year, as announced by the Prime Minister, Yang Amat Berhormat, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak on March.
