The signing of the MoU marked a new phase in the relationship, with greater collaboration on data, information, knowledge, resources, facilities and expertise in management and education fields.
UUM through the Institute of Quality Management (IPQ) will work hand in hand with the Malaysian Polytechnics to establish extensive Polytechnic Strategic Plan at national level, and will enable all polytechnic institutions in the country to adapt the same strategic plan.
The MoU was signed by UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim, representing UUM Vice-Chancellor and Director of Seberang Perai Polytechnic (PSP), Mr. Zulkifli Ariffin, representing the Malaysian Polytechnic.
The ceremony, performed at The Light Hotel, Seberang Jaya, was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, Yang Berhormat (YB) Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching; Chairman of the Focus Group, Penang Bumiputera Human Capital Development cum Bertam Assemblyman, YB Tn. Haji Shariful Azhar Othman; and Director General of Polytechnic Education Department, Yang Berbahagia Datuk Haji Mohlis Jaafar.
Apart from UUM, the Malaysian Polytechnics also signed another MoU with Aerospace Composites Malaysia Sdn Bhd (ACM), is a Joint Venture (JV) Company based in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, owned equally by The Boeing Company and Hexcel Corporation and the Penang Bumiputera Development Council.
The signing of the MoU was held in conjunction with the launching of a Professional Aerospace Composite Machining Diploma programme, a collaborative effort between the Malaysian Polytechnics and the ACM. This diploma programme will be offered at the Tasek Gelugor Metro Polytechnic and the programme is fully sponsored by the Penang Bumiputera Development Council.
YB Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching expressed her excitement and pride over a three-pronged collaborative effort, which in turn produces a substantial impact on the development of the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), the industry and the future graduates.
"The collaboration between the Malaysian Polytechnics and UUM will further strengthen our aspiration to produce more skilled graduates.
She also extended her heartfelt congratulations to UUM for its Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme received an accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA), thus putting UUM MBA programme unequivocally on par with those of other world-renowned universities such as University of Cambridge and University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom as well as for being listed in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings.
She added that the UUM most awaited and anticipated achievements coincided with the Higher Education ministry’s tagline "Soaring Upwards", as the university position in the QS World University Rankings is increasing every year.
Also present at the ceremony were senior officials of the Ministry, Directors of Malaysian Polytechnics, Heads of Executive Officers and industry representatives as well as Director of UUM IPQ, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah.
