UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, in his welcoming speech said the creativity and innovation were closely related to psychological aspects, besides intellectual abilities.
"In addition to gaining knowledge, the students need to be creative and innovative to achieve continuing success.
"As students, we do things the same old way because it is comfortable, but the risk in staying firmly inside our comfort zones is that it creates psychological barriers that can lead to real limitations. I would like to urge all of you to learn something new, take a chance and be brave to take some risks," he said.
Prof. Dato' Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak also reiterated that the students should fully utilise all amenities available on campus in order to help them increase their knowledge and master new skills to enhance their creativity and innovation in addition to honing their leadership skills.
A total of 3,514 UUM new students took part in the New Student Pledge of Loyalty Ceremony to be fully-fledged students of UUM at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall.
Leading the new student pledge recital was Izrin Shah Datuk Arif Shah, a student of Bachelor of Science in Economics. All the new students took the oath and made the pledge to themselves in the presence of the UUM Vice-Chancellor and Members of the UUM Senate.
