Besides, Muslims are reminded of the benefits and importance of giving alms (sedekah) in the blessed month of Ramadan that would not only benefit those in need but also themselves, such as narrated in hadith Muslim;
“When a man dies, his action discontinues from him except three things, namely, perpetual sadaqah (charity), or the knowledge by which benefit is acquired, or a pious child who prays for him”.
In conjunction with Ramadan this year, Chance Club Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) hosted another meaningful get together and Iftar reception to strengthen family ties and foster positive staff relationship among Chance Club members with a twist of ‘pot-luck’ session when each club members brought their own foods.
Director of Chancellery, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi Abdullah said the potluck exercise and exchanging foods could foster positive family ties amongst members of the club.
“Exchanging delicacies amongst members of the Chance Club will strengthen our family togetherness. This is one of the bountiful benefits of ‘sedekah’. Indeed, I am hoping that the iftar reception will toughen fraternity amongst us.
“Furthermore, I would like to urge all of you to deeply embrace the last 10 nights of Ramadan by performing prayers because there will be a night called lailatulqadar, the night of a thousand blessings,” he said, speaking on behalf of the UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak during the Ketuk-Ketuk Iftar Ramadan, held at UUM Welcome Centre, recently.
Ustaz Mohamad Yusnaidi Md Sabri, an Islamic Affairs Officer from UUM Islamic Centre delivered a Ramadan tazkirah (religious sermon) prior to the breaking of fast.
During the reception, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi handed-out duit raya to the children of UUM Chance Club members, presented the Raya goodies hampers and also birthday gifts to members of the club who were born in the month of May to July.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Chance Club, Mr. Nor Azli Abdul Aziz also said that in addition to the exchanging food tradition, relaxing environment surrounding the Welcome Centre and iftar together with family members will surely enliven the festivities atmosphere.
