The opening ceremony was graced by Kedah State Assemblyman, Dato' Norsabrina Mohd Noor who is also the Chairperson of Science, Innovation and Information Technology, Communications and High-Technology and Human Resources committee.
In her speech, Dato' Norsabrina stressed on the application of information and communication technologies in educationas a means to ensure the development of our country. This effort will help to instigate a knowledge-based economy (k-economy).
She added that, with the availability of sophisticated technology nowadays, the concept of ICT must be incorporated in the education sector where it will indirectly generate a savvy group of students, and accordingly contribute to economic development in future.
Dato' Norsabrina expressed her admiration to SMMTC for their dedication to ensure the success of the programme. At the same event, Dato' Norsabrina also launched QR @ SMMTC, and thenceforth presented the Dean’s Award to 39 SMMTC students who received the Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above for the first semester of 2014/2015 session.
QR @ SMMTC is a project developed by the Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC) group, co-founded by the Dean of SMMTC and the Assistant Registrar to simplify the information delivery system among students and staff where access to information can be obtained only by scanning the code.
The use of QR or "Quick Response" has been utilised in matters for instance, the dissemination of information from the school, access to academic and administrative staff profile, access to websites, social media as well as web TV.
The Dean of SMMTC, Dr. Rosli Mohammed said, SMMTC Week 2015, with the theme “Green Forest”, was intended to bring together and showcase the students’ creative work throughout semester A142.
Students will receive input and feedback from experts made up of lecturers and industry practitioners regarding their final project. This will indirectly boost their confidence in publicising their creative work to the public.
A host of activities have been lined-up throughout SMMTC Week 2015 including an event with the Alumni of SMMTC, a media forum with Datuk Ahmad A. Talib and Datuk Mior Kamarulbaid Mior Shahid, academic seminar, talks, exhibitions, and religious programme in addition to recreational activities.
