Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has established a long-standing relationship with creative industry players and media practitioners to develop human capital especially amongst its students.
The SMMTC has also established a comprehensive Academic Strategic Partnership in 2013 as part of its academic development programmes.
The developed strategic partnership also served as a platform to exchange ideas and information between academics and creative industry practitioners in developing creative industry and media courses in this particular university.
Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), Datuk Chamil Wariya; Datuk Abdul Jalil Ali of Karangkraf Group Sdn. Bhd; Datuk Ahmad A. Talib from Yayasan Salam Malaysia; Datuk Jaspal S. Korotana of Orangetree Production Sdn Bhd and Habsah Hassan of Music Authors' Copyright Protection Berhad were among the creative industry prominent figures who attended the event.
Besides, a dialogue session with the creative industry players also took place at the event to allow the School to gain beneficial input and to get feedbacks on their efforts to transform the creative industry and media curriculum and programmes offered by UUM at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to comply with the demands from the industry.
"The feedbacks from the industry practitioners are important for the university to produce a curriculum that is relevant to the industry needs, so that our graduates will be able perform well in the industry and also to become assets to the creative industry in Malaysia," said UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Wira Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak in his welcoming speech.
The Vice-Chancellor also presented reappointment letters to the UUM Academic Strategic Partnership, among which were The New Straits Times Press (NSTP), Media Prima Berhad, Northern Corridor Promotions Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) and Creative Content Industry Guild Malaysia.
Also present at the event were Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM CAS, Prof. Dr. Norshuhada Shiratuddin and Dean of SMMTC, Dr. Rosli Mohammed.
